RCMP used a ‘high-risk’ takedown to stop a vehicle they say was carrying firearms stolen from a home in Airdrie during a house party.
EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — El Dorado County Deputies have recovered a stash of stolen guns.
Early this month, someone broke into at least two storage units, stealing eight guns, tools, and other equipment.
Deputies watched the area, and early Friday morning stopped a suspicious vehicle nearby.
They say they arrested Gloria Gloria Rodrigues-Fiske after finding bolt cutters, locks, and meth in her car.
A search of a storage unit she owned in Lodi led to the recovery of most of the weapons and equipment.
Edmonton police are investigating after pricey silver bars, registered guns and ammunition were stolen from an acreage in the city’s northeast earlier this month.
A large number of handguns have been reported stolen after a break-in at a St. Albert business, the RCMP said on Thursday.
Police say both firearms were recovered and will be returned to their rightful owner.
Police say they responded to a break-in where six handguns, four rifles and 500 rounds of 9-mm ammunition were stolen from the residence.
THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) – Federal authorities say 16 people have been charged with stealing from gun stores around Colorado.
Acting U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer and ATF Denver Division Special Agent in Charge Debora Livingston say the issue is a top priority.
“Very brazen type of gun theft, where folks are cutting through walls smashing front windows or driving vehicles through the fronts of stores,” Troyer said.
They say federal agencies are collaborating with local police departments to solve thefts from stores around the state.
“We are using shell casing analysis, DNA analysis, cell phone and social media exploitation. Every trick in the book to get the guns back and also to hold these folks accountable for this,” Troyer said.
Tuesday’s announcement included charges in six separate break-ins, dating back to November.
Arrests that came largely in part to the formation of a special task force known as “Strike Force.”
In the most recent case, prosecutors say four people teamed up to steal handguns, shotguns and rifles from Mel Bernstein’s store Dragon Arms in El Paso County.
“My video shows four people running into the store grabbing guns and running back out,” he said.
Prosecutors say more than 400 firearms have been stolen from Colorado stores this year.
Troyer says their aggressive approach to solving these crimes should send an equally aggressive message.
“They should go somewhere else if they want to try this. The reality is you’re going to get caught,” said Troyer.

CHICAGO (CBS) — A 43-year-old Riverdale man accused of stealing more than 100 guns from a train car in a South Side railyard has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say about 111 guns were stolen out of a train car parked overnight in a railyard in Chicago’s Avalon Park neighborhood in April 2015. The firearms were being shipped cross-country to Washington state.
Andrew Shelton pleaded guilty earlier this year to illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, after admitting he and seven others stole the guns while hunting for designer shoes, leather clothes or other goods on the train.
Prosecutors said Shelton sold 13 guns right off the bat on the black market.
A federal judge sentenced Shelton to 10 years in prison on Tuesday.
Federal authorities have said only 19 of the 111 guns have been recovered, some from the scenes of other crimes.
OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Two handguns were stolen from the vehicle of an off-duty officer from Taft, a city in Kern County, while it was parked near the Oakland airport late Monday morning, Oakland police said.
The officer’s vehicle was broken into while it was parked in the 400 block of Hegenberger Road at 11:16 a.m. Monday, according to Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.
She said the officer was traveling on business in an unmarked city of Taft vehicle.
Watson said, “The Oakland Police Department understands the seriousness of the items that were taken in this auto burglary. Our patrol officers and investigators are working diligently to identify who is responsible for this crime, effecting an arrest and recovering the stolen property.”
She said anyone who has information about the theft of the guns should call the Oakland Police Department’s burglary unit at (510) 238-3951.
Taft is located in the San Joaquin Valley and is about 30 miles west-southwest of Bakersfield.
