LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) – More than a dozen geese and ducks died on a pond in Lakewood.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service say someone polluted the retention pond near Wadsworth Boulevard and Highway 285.
Lab tests found commercial cooking oil waste was dumped in the pond repeatedly between Jan. 18 and Feb. 2.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)– Crews broke ground on a new development in Wheat Ridge on Wednesday. When “The Corners” is finished it will include a grocery store, restaurants and apartments. Copter4 flew over the development at 38th and Wadsworth. Boulder-based Lucky’s Market will open a 35,000 square foot store there. There will also be 230 apartments, a plaza and a park. The development is expected to be finished by next Spring.
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)– One person was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Arvada. That driver stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators. The crash happened about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at 80th and Wadsworth. The victim was located north of the intersection. What happened leading up to the crash is being investigated. Neither the victim nor the driver have been identified.
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)– Police hope someone recognizes the man captured in video while trying to break into an auto repair shop in Lakewood. Surveillance cameras captured the man using a stolen SUV to continuously ram a Chevy Suburban into the garage door of Pickering’s Automotive at 90 South Wadsworth Blvd. That Suburban was used in another burglary at a business in Belmar. The stolen SUV has been recovered by police. The suspect is described as a possibly Asian or Hispanic male, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-8, with dark shaggy hair and possibly a light-colored mustache.
