‘Bomb Cyclone’ May Cause Migraines, Aches, Pains, Even Early Labor

DENVER (CBS4) – If your body is sensitive to migraines, aches and pains when there is low barometric pressure then prepare now for the intense winter storm expected to develop over Colorado on Wednesday. It threatens to challenge some of the lowest pressure readings ever recorded in eastern Colorado and western Kansas.

The standard that we calibrate our barometers to is sea level pressure, which is 1013.25 millibars. Current forecast models show the central pressure of the developing storm potentially dropping as low as 975 millibars. To put this into perspective that is roughly as low as a Category 2 hurricane.

The result of pressure this low could be crippling for those who suffer from migraines, body aches and joint pain due to conditions such as arthritis. Many healthcare professionals, including labor and delivery nurses, also believe that extremely low barometric pressure readings can cause spontaneous delivery for woman near the end of their pregnancy.

Several studies, including this one, have come to a similar conclusion.

Denver Weather: Stormy Week Ahead To Include Fog, Wind, Rain And Snow

DENVER (CBS4) – It looks like an active weather week ahead for Colorado as a large storm system currently over the Pacific Ocean moves inland. It will start to influence our forecast as early as tonight with rain and snow showers moving into southwest Colorado.

The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch for the southwest mountains and additional watches, advisories or warnings are likely as the storm gets closer to the state. This new weather maker will have the potential to drop a foot or more of snow in the San Juan Mountains.

Ahead of the approaching storm you can expect today’s weather to be similar to Saturday in most areas only without the strong wind. We anticipate scattered snow showers in the mountains along and north of Interstate 70. There is also a very small chance to see a stray rain or snow shower by this evening in metro Denver as a cool front passes by.

Monday will feature more clouds than sunshine across the state and the day could even start with some morning fog in Denver and on the eastern plains. Rain and snow showers will become widespread over the southern half of Colorado.

Then all eyes will be on the middle of the nation by Wednesday as the storm system crosses the Rocky Mountains and gains strength as it taps into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. There is the potential for blizzard conditions to develop in eastern Colorado as this all comes together by Wednesday. Denver and the Interstate 25 Urban Corridor will be on the western fringe so stay tuned to see how this materializes!

Denver Weather: Coldest Early March Temps In Nearly 60 Years

DENVER (CBS4) – Arctic cold will grip the eastern half of Colorado today and tonight with some areas seeing the coldest temperatures for early March in nearly 60 years according to the National Weather Service. Many places on the northeast plains fell below zero Sunday morning including Denver International Airport with a low of -6 degrees.

Due to the bitter cold there is a Wind Chill Advisory in effect for much of northeast and east-central Colorado, including Denver and the I-25 urban corridor, where wind chill values could briefly hit -20 degrees. The advisory covers both Sunday and Monday morning.

There is another chance for snow showers today in Denver and along the Front Range but they will be light with only minor accumulation. The best chance to see additional snow will be this afternoon and evening. The main story is the cold with highs struggling to reach the teens.

Another bitter cold start to the day is in store Monday for eastern Colorado with many locations falling below zero once again.

It’s a much warmer and wetter forecast for the mountains of western Colorado as another batch of Pacific moisture arrives today. More snow is on the way and some places could see up to another foot of powder.

Most mountain areas remain under a Winter Storm Warning through early Monday.
